Biography
An English State: The bio to date...
I first formed 'An English State' in 2007 as a three piece, but being reliant on musician mates who had to work around their own commitments, recording windows were irratic and held things up. I went solo with, vocal guests, under the AES flag about two years ago. I finished my first 13 track album 'This English State' in February 09, I didn't have the confidence to put it out on release then, but I am posting tracks from it exclusively on iComp now. The feedback has been brilliant, thank you.
My personal Bio...
I work as a photographer and commercial artist in East Sussex, on the South coast of England. The United States of Europea.
I've always been a musician right from my early triangle days at Junior school.
Played in a few bands, doing nearly all of my own suff, with a few cover tracks, thrown in for the pub and club crowds. I stopped live gigging because the music I wanted to record I was never going to realistically possible to recreate in a pub/club environment. That combined with an ever increasing level of stage fright, ( big stage fright ! ) put paid to any further live performances.
I enjoy the arts, don't enjoy people who are up themselves when it comes to talking about the arts. ( Its for everyone, not a self proclaimed, seemingly all knowing elite... Hold on, I'm starting to sound up myself ! ) Love the cinema, and I think that probably comes across in my own music. Photography and painting (Even though I work in the medium.) And laughing, I like laughing.
Influences re music are ecleptic. But to mention a few of my favs in no particular order:
Be Bop Deluxe & Bill Nelson (Solo) / The Stranglers / Morrisey / Devo / The Rezillo's / B52's / Squeeze / The Buzzcocks / Fisher Z / Salad / XTC / The Clash / Big Audio Dynamite / Louis XIV / The Who / The Ting Ting's / Blur / John Barry / Bowie / Goldfrapp (The Early Stuff) / Jethro Tull (There I admit it) /
Plastics ( Love the Japanese music scene ) / The Damned / Supergrass / The Tubes. / The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. / The Associates / Sparks / Magazine
More to follow.
I am in the process of finishing the next 18 track album 'State of Dysphoria' and hope to get that out on iTunes by March/April. 2010
I will add to this bio, as and when. But in the mean time if you have any questions, or comments, please feel free to get in contact.
Regards
K
